What happened
In September 2022 a large set of in development GTA 6 clips appeared online. They came from test builds, complete with debug overlays and placeholder assets, and Rockstar confirmed the intrusion shortly afterwards. The footage was never meant to represent the game, and judging GTA 6 visually by it is pointless.
What it is good for is geometry. Terrain, coastlines, road layouts and building footprints in a test build usually survive to release, because they are the parts a studio locks down early. Several areas first seen in the leaks were later confirmed almost unchanged by trailer two.
What the leaks told us about Leonida
- The scale and shape of central Vice City, including the bay and the causeway layout, which trailer frames later matched.
- Wetland and farmland terrain inland, now folded into the Ambrosia and Grassrivers region.
- Facilities in South Leonida, including the prison complex that has fed a lot of mission speculation.
- The two protagonist structure, with Lucia and Jason both playable, confirmed on stage by Rockstar a year later.
How we treat leak material
Every leak reference is tagged as a leak, dated by the build timestamp in the clip, and kept in its own map category. Nothing from a leak is presented as confirmed, and where a leak reference and an official frame disagree, the official frame wins. If you want an official only view, the map filter handles that in one click.
Leak references by build date
Most of the usable footage dates from 2022, during the stretch when the test build was being moved around the state. Open a reference to see where it sits.

Frequently asked questions
+What were the GTA 6 leaks?
In September 2022 roughly 90 clips of early GTA 6 development footage were published without Rockstar's permission. The clips showed unfinished test builds, debug menus and raw level geometry rather than anything close to a finished game.
+Are the GTA 6 leaks accurate to the final map?
Partly. Terrain shapes, road layouts and building footprints from the leaks have repeatedly matched what later trailers showed, which makes them useful for mapping. Lighting, detail, vehicles and interiors were all placeholder and tell you nothing about the final game.
+Why are leak references labelled separately on the map?
So you can choose what to trust. Leak pins sit in their own category, which means you can filter the map down to official trailers and screenshots only if you prefer.
