What is on the GTA 6 map

Leonida is a fictional take on Florida. The south east corner holds Vice City and its beach strip, the island chain of the Leonida Keys trails off to the south west, farmland and wetlands fill the interior, forested high ground sits in the north around Mount Kalaga, and the panhandle coast runs west toward Port Gellhorn.

Two protagonists, Lucia and Jason, move through all of it. Trailer footage shows highway travel, airboats in the swamp, boats around the Keys and light aircraft over the coast, which tells you the map is built to be crossed by more than just cars.

The regions, from city to swamp

  • Vice City: Vice City is the beating heart of Leonida and the densest part of the GTA 6 map, stretching from the downtown towers across the causeways to the beach strip. Currently 37 mapped locations.
  • Vice Beach: Vice Beach covers the barrier island strip, the Venetian Islands canals and Watson Bay, the stretch of the GTA 6 map with the most confirmed landmarks so far. Currently 28 mapped locations.
  • Leonida Keys: The Leonida Keys run south west from the mainland as a chain of islands connected by a single long bridge, the quietest and most boat friendly corner of the GTA 6 map. Currently 18 mapped locations.
  • Port Gellhorn: Port Gellhorn sits on the northern panhandle coast of Leonida, a faded resort town with a boardwalk, a shuttered amusement pier and heavy industry inland. Currently 4 mapped locations.
  • Ambrosia: Ambrosia and the Grassrivers wetlands form the rural interior of Leonida, where swamp airboats, farmland and backroads replace city traffic. Currently 5 mapped locations.
  • Mount Kalaga: Mount Kalaga National Park covers the forested high ground of northern Leonida, the closest thing the GTA 6 map has to wilderness. Currently 2 mapped locations.
  • West Leonida: West Leonida is the inland stretch between Vice City and the panhandle, taking in Cal Hampton and the highway corridors that link the state together. Currently 10 mapped locations.
  • South Leonida: South Leonida runs from the edge of Vice City down toward the Keys, mixing suburbs, swampland and the state facilities seen in leaked development footage. Currently 10 mapped locations.

How this map was built

Nothing here is extracted from the game. The base image is a reconstruction of the coastline and road network assembled from official art and footage, then split into zoom tiles. Pins land on it in three passes.

  1. Trailer frames. A shot is paused, landmarks in it are matched against the coastline and road layout, and the camera position is estimated from the horizon and parallax. Trailer one and trailer two together account for 50 pins.
  2. Official screenshots. Rockstar press stills are high resolution enough to read street signage and building shapes, which makes them the most reliable anchors. 37 are placed.
  3. Leak references. The September 2022 development footage shows raw geometry in test areas. It is useful for interior layout and terrain, and it is labelled separately so you can ignore it if you only trust official material. 42 are placed.

What is still unknown

The northern border of the state, the full extent of Mount Kalaga, and the road network west of Cal Hampton are the weakest areas. Interiors are barely mapped at all, since almost no footage shows enough of one to fix a position. Expect those gaps to close quickly once Rockstar starts its pre release push ahead of November 19, 2026.

Frequently asked questions

+What is the GTA 6 map called?

The state is called Leonida. Its main city is Vice City, which returns from GTA Vice City with a modern rebuild.

+Is the whole GTA 6 map known already?

No. The coastline, Vice City, Vice Beach, the Keys and several inland towns are well established from official footage. Large parts of the interior are still filled in from leak geometry and will shift as better material arrives.

+Will the GTA 6 map get bigger after launch?

Rockstar expanded the GTA Online map several times after GTA 5 launched, so post launch additions are likely, but nothing has been announced.
